What's the deal with SUSE?

My question is why does everyone seem to love openSuse? I am not sure I am spelling that correctly, but who cares. My problem with openSuse when I used it was I was in dependency hell all the time and it became unbearable. I set up the repositories with pacman and the others but it was no use. When I tried downloading vlc from yast it didn't have all the dependencies, big surprise. I also had problems with mplayer, it didn't have all the dependencies. Maybe I missed a repository, here is the list I added it is found at: http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_YaST_Package_Repositories
With all that said the gui was nice and felt snappy on my pc an AMD 64 3200+ with 1GB of ram. It's just with Ubuntu and automatix and the lack of dependency issues in synaptic, I see little use for me using openSuse. Maybe it's just me that is experiencing these issues, if you know the problem let me know please.
