A sense of progression

My plan is to for the next 2 months, not use or read anything on Linux. Why? You may ask. Well i'll tell you. Currently I am engulfed in the Linux world and progression to me seems slow. Now with a couple months of socially isolating myself from Linux, it will give me an idea of the progression of Linux is going. Feel free to comment, pretty lacking so far in that market.

Dreamlinux 2.0 XGL

I am getting tempted to check out Dreamlinux 2.0 with XGL, but would like to hear from the readers if they have had any experience using this.

openSUSE random bull shit

Alright went to go try openSUSE 10.1 again to give it another change and for some reason this time it did not see my network card. Tried to configure it and no luck. Gonna wait for the next version to see if everything is cleared up, Yast's slowness and my network card problem. Will keep you guys informed on my experiences with SUSE 10.2 when it's full version.

What killer app linux needs.

Earlier today I was using Ubuntu and was wondering what linux needs to make more people want to switch. What I think it needs is a free iLife like suite. If they could offer the same usability of iLife for free I think that would bring more followers. If linux could have Amarok interact with FSpot and so on. Linux is a capable OS and all that is needed in my oppinion is for the developers of this software to work together more. People often switch to OS X because of the look and for iLife or atleast from the people I know that have switched. Now linux with xgl can have the look and all we need is an free iLife clone. I could get into other stuff that needs to be changed for more to switch, such as a gui becoming standard for every application, but that's a longer story. Tell me what you think.

What would you do?

A big question that I have wondering is what OS would you teach someone who is new to computers? I initially was thinking that of course, I would show them around Windows. After a little bit more thought I came to the conclusion that I would teach them Linux. For example many people would consider learning a new language a difficult task. Now it is much easier if you are born in that country and learn it as a native language. This is my reason for wanting to teach a n00b Linux. Linux is much more difficult to use than Windows. I believe the transition from Linux to Windows is much easier than from Windows to Linux. Teaching Linux would make them much more technically literate and if they needed to learn Windows they would have an easy transition. These are my thoughts and feel free to comment on them.

What's the deal with SUSE?

My question is why does everyone seem to love openSuse? I am not sure I am spelling that correctly, but who cares. My problem with openSuse when I used it was I was in dependency hell all the time and it became unbearable. I set up the repositories with pacman and the others but it was no use. When I tried downloading vlc from yast it didn't have all the dependencies, big surprise. I also had problems with mplayer, it didn't have all the dependencies. Maybe I missed a repository, here is the list I added it is found at: http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_YaST_Package_Repositories
With all that said the gui was nice and felt snappy on my pc an AMD 64 3200+ with 1GB of ram. It's just with Ubuntu and automatix and the lack of dependency issues in synaptic, I see little use for me using openSuse. Maybe it's just me that is experiencing these issues, if you know the problem let me know please.

Introducing the Blog

Alright here is a brief summary of this blog. This blog is basically gonna be my concerns with the linux operating system and my experiences. I would like this blog to expand into something that could possibly push linux as a more well known operating system, but I won't get to ahead of myself yet.
